Protect Yourself from One of the Fastest-Growing Crimes

With the increased technology available to criminals, identity theft has become one of the biggest crimes in America during the last decade. It is something that you think will never happen to you; however, 27.3 million individuals have been victims of identity theft during the last five years. There are ways you can protect yourself from becoming a victim of this crime:

1. Shred financial documents containing personal information.
2. Protect personal information, such as your Social Security Number. Do not give our your SSN and do not carry your Social Security card.
3. Don't supply personal information to individuals or companies on the telephone, via mail or Internet, unless you know exactly who you are giving the information to.
4. Don't click on links sent in random e-mails. Make sure you have up-to-date firewalls and anti-spyware installed on your computer.
5. When creating passwords, don't use obvious ones, such as the last four digits of your Social Security Number or your birthdate.
6. Keep your personal information in a safe place in your home.

At the Law Office of Christine Vanderford, we care about our clients and want to help you protect yourself from crimes such as identity theft.

Economic Stimulus Plan

There are actions being taken in order to boost the economy. Some of the pieces of this plan effect small businesses and some effect the individual taxpayer.

There is a portion of this plan that will help with the expenses of a small business-businesses by allowing qualifying small businesses to receive $250,000 instead of $125,000. Another portion useful to small businesses is a bonus depreciation, which would allow 50% of a capital investment to be deducted when it is purchased.

Many of you are probably familiar with the provision that effects individual taxpayers. This provision effects individuals as follows:

*For individuals making $75,000 or less, a $600 rebate will be available
*For married couples making $150,000 or less, a $1,200 rebate will be available
*Individuals who qualify will receive an additional $300 for each child

If you have legal questions regarding any changes in legislature, please feel free to contact our firm.
